      A meteor is mainly made of dust and ice from comets or asteroids. Meteors come through the Earths atmosphere (they are also called shooting stars) and if they don’t fully burn up in the atmosphere, they become meteorites and meteorites hit the surface (land or sea). Meteorites tend to have large amounts of iron in them which doesn’t fully burn up going through the atmosphere…
